Mes travaux de recherche portent principalement sur la fin de la période dite du Second Temple de Jérusalem, alors que la Judée était soumise à la domination romaine (63 AEC – 135 EC). Cette époque déterminante dans l’histoire du peuple juif a vu la fin de l’indépendance politique juive instaurée par les Hasmonéens (63 AEC), la destruction du Second Temple de Jérusalem (70 EC) et l’amorce de l’affirmation du Judaïsme rabbinique, dont l’immense majorité des Juifs se réclame aujourd’hui.
Non moins essentielle est l’apparition dans ce contexte historique du mouvement chrétien qui, de courant juif devait se muer, au terme d’un processus complexe, en une religion distincte.
Je m’intéresse en particulier aux questions relatives à la formation des identités religieuses (juive, chrétienne et samaritaine) dans la Judée des premiers siècles. Par ailleurs, étant féru d’archéologie, j’ai consacré certains de mes travaux à l’étude du roi bâtisseur Hérode le Grand (37-4 AEC) et à ses ouvrages monumentaux.
